Adventures of India //Part 1
17th October 2011 – 25th October 2011
10 DAYS IN INDIA.
My family, together with my relatives (bridegroom’s family) made a trip to India, Shillong to attend my cousin’s wedding. It was a pretty great experience as we managed to step foot in a more laid back, not as advanced as Singapore, 3rd world country. I must say, India is really a beautiful place. If you are an adventurous person who enjoys sightseeing more than shopping, you should really make a trip there!
This trip, I’ve learnt to really treasure what I have here now, having the latest technologies and concrete roof above our head when we sleep at night. When I was there in Shillong, I see some people and kids (especially) who lived in poverty going round to their famous shopping place/ town area to beg for money, wanting to help but we could not as we knew that once we started giving.. a huge crowd of kids would come and surround you. Anyway, my cousin-in-laws’ arranged a really pretty guesthouse to accomodate us, we have housekeepers, servers and all in the house, so practically everything we want, we just ask and we will be served. However, we learnt that whenever we want to eat at a certain time, we need to let them know way in advance as it there takes about an hour before your food is served (this waiting time also happens when you dine in restaurants!) hahaha. The weather was AMAZING throughout the trip. :)
It was terribly long journey to Shillong, seriously it felt as though I was attempting a journey to the west! hahaha. It took us a good 2 days to reach Shillong. We took a 4 hour plus flight from KL to Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta) followed by an hour of domestic flight from Kolkata to Guwahati and then about a 4hr car ride UPHILL to Shillong. The worst thing was that, the journey uphill was STEEP, NARROW, DUSTY AND BUMPY. :O

That’s my aunt and I with a stretch of old lockers along our transit rest rooms. Yup, we stayed a night over at Kolkata’s airport, due to our domestic flight timing.

Mummy looking really happy in front of a mama shop, at our rest stop uphill!

One of India’s signature happenings.

Everyone looking tired…
